Bringing Hindi language, culture and community together since 1993
Hindi Samaaj Sydney is a community organisation dedicated to celebrating and strengthening Hindi language, literature and culture in Australia.
Founded in Sydney in 1993, Hindi Samaaj brings people together through language education, cultural programs, literature, music, performing arts and community activities.
For more than three decades, the organisation has created opportunities for children, young people, families and the wider community to learn Hindi, experience its rich cultural traditions and build lasting connections.
As Hindi Australia by Hindi Samaaj, we are building on that heritage for a new generation — creating an inclusive and welcoming community where people can learn the language, experience the culture and connect with one another.

OUR STORY
More than three decades of Hindi in Sydney
Hindi Samaaj has brought people together through language, literature, music, performance and community since 1993.
Selected milestones · 1993–2004
1993
Hindi Samaaj founded in Sydney.
1994
Literary and cultural programs organised to promote local talent, including Hindi poetry, plays and children's folk dances.
1995
Flute recital by Pt. Hari Prasad Chaurasia in Sydney.
1996
Children's Hindi classes commenced.
1997
An evening with Shabana Azmi combining poetry and community fundraising.
1998
Hindi poetry and cultural programs continued, including comic and satirical poetry.
1999
Chetna, the Hindi magazine, established.
2000
An evening with Hindi poet Neeraj.
2001
Baal Diwas activities encouraged children to participate in cultural programs.
2001
A classical music program brought together North and South Indian traditions.
2002
Hindi comedy plays presented on stage and community radio.
2003
Hindi Samaaj participated in Sydney cultural and literary programs.
2003
Hindi library established.
2004
Hindi Samaaj liaised with the University of Sydney's Asian Studies area regarding promotion of Hindi and Urdu in graduate courses.
OUR FUTURE
A new generation of Hindi Australia
Our history began with a commitment to Hindi language and culture. Our future is about making that connection meaningful for the next generation.
Through education, events, culture, volunteering and youth-led initiatives, Hindi Australia aims to create new ways for people to learn, participate, create and belong.
